What decides whether a motorised suitcase can fly is the battery inside it: how many watt hours it holds, and whether it comes out.

Airwheel put five of them in front of visitors at ChinaJoy in Shanghai this week, among them a children's case and a 24-inch model sized for the hold. The flagship, the SE3SXD, is a 20-inch cabin case that opens into a ride-on at the touch of a button and will carry up to 95 kg (209 lbs) at up to 9.9 km/h (6.15 mph). It weighs 6.8 kg (15 lbs) empty. Its battery holds 73.26 watt hours and, the company says, detaches in one second.
