When a private jet drops its passengers at one airport, it still has to get to its next booking, usually without anyone on board. Industry estimates put the share of private jet flights that operate this way, known as empty legs or repositioning flights, at somewhere between thirty and fifty percent of all private jet traffic. Because the aircraft is flying regardless of whether anyone books it, operators discount these seats heavily, commonly by half to three quarters of the standard charter price.
