Tate Britain opens The 90s: Art and Fashion, curated by Edward Enninful, on Thursday, in a week of strong London exhibitions and evening talks. Ian Rankin, Andrew Graham-Dixon and Michael Palin are all on stage between Tuesday and Thursday, and on Monday the Bank of England Museum opens a free exhibition with a life-sized coffee house from the years after the Great Fire.

These are things to do in London for adults with a full diary who want an evening or an afternoon that is properly their own. Most of the evening picks start at 7pm or 7.30pm and finish within two hours, and all eight are in or close to central London, from Kensington and Victoria to Bank and Brick Lane. Two of them, the museum and a new chophouse on Cornhill, fit inside a working day in the City.

The picks run in date order, and each ends with the day, time, place and whether to book. Our guide to [London networking and business events for executives](https://richtravelmagazine.com/article/london-networking-events-5-october-2026) covers the working side of the same week.
